Learners will NOT connect with and pursue math when they LACK language and vocabulary, engaging lessons, tools to absorb and assimilate information, problem-solving strategies, initiative to try and motivation to persevere, working memory and long-term memory skills, focus and retention skills, the understanding that math is NOT about rules, speed, or getting the right answer, but finding optimal solutions to problems with logical reasoning and critical thinking, the proof that math enhances cognition and abilities to decode, process, analyze, summarize, estimate, project, forecast to make predictions and better decisions, accessibility, which comes in the form of solid number sense and math fact fluency.

Hattennoki calls this the “math divide.”
